Overview
Cat fleas are tiny, dark brown or black, about one to two millimetres long, and with a ‘flat’ shape which helps them slip easily through fur. They don’t have wings, but their strong back legs mean they can jump surprisingly far. On cats, they’re often found around the neck, back or base of the tail, where grooming is harder.
You might also notice signs such as flea dirt (which looks like black pepper and turns red when wet) or small white eggs in bedding and carpets. While fleas are most active on pets, most of the problem lies in the home — especially in soft furnishings where eggs and larvae grow.
