What pet owners say
This is a really lovely vet practice. The reception staff always chat to me about my cats, and recently they sprayed a blanket with calming spray to make my cat’s time in the waiting area more comfortable. The spray seemed to make a real difference. The two vets I have seen, Louise and Gillian, are both friendly, professional, listened well, and were lovely with my cats. I have never felt rushed and the vets have always shared their knowledge generously. One time, the vet did not charge me when I turned up for a follow up appointment that my cat had not needed. There had been a miscommunication between me and my partner, and she kindly waived the fee because the appointment turned out not to have been necessary. I have had only good experiences with this practice and would highly recommend their services to anyone.

I had to bring my girl Maple in last night for an emergency appointment. I cannot even begin to explain how friendly, knowledgeable and kind the vet and all the staff were. I was an anxious wreck but she was so patient and answered all the questions I had and spoiled Maple rotten. Genuinely angels on earth. Thank you so much again.

I never had anything other than kind, welcoming, professional service from animals first. But the main thing that sets them apart, in my experience, was the personal and sympathetic card they sent, upon the sudden and traumatic loss of my dog. They were not involved in his end of life care, since it was an emergency service I had to use. Nevertheless, they spent time on a handwritten personal card of condolences, which I was genuinely touched by. Wee obi is in my heart forever but that was a lovely thing to do xxx

We have just come out the other side of an incredibly stressful and difficult month of our beloved cat Malachi having a chin abscess, which became necrotic and broke down and then needed to heal by secondary intention over 4 weeks. We have throughout this process felt so lucky and grateful to be with Animals 1st. So many members of the team, including to name just a few who's names I actually remember: Lauren, Amie, Morven & Louise - have been so kind, caring and supportive. Special mention and thank you beyond words must go to Lewis Steer, who has looked after Malachi from his second visit right through to discharge yesterday. He has gone above and beyond for our boy at each stage. He was open and honest with us throughout about our options and next steps and fitted us in anytime we needed seen. We cannot thank you all enough. With love and thanks from us all. Highly recommend Animals 1st for anyone living in East Lothian with pets. We hope to not be back soon, but know we are in such safe and caring hands next time we need vet care.

Animals 1st Vets (Macmerry) is aptly named. I recently took my dog along after having a poor experience at our previous vet and I actually enjoyed my visit to the vet - who knew that could happen?! The person on reception (Katy?) was an absolute dream, not just with me but with everyone that came and went. Felt more like a friend than someone at their work. The vet (Aileen?) was incredible. She spent so much time building up trust with my dog, listened to everything I had to say, gave me advice off the back of it and put a plan in place. The vet also showed me how to perform one of the treatments I was unsure about which made things so much easier. It gave me confidence that anyone could leave there knowing exactly how to best help their pet. When discussing treatments, medications etc I was giving multiple options with varying prices. I’ve never been given options in this way before but what a fab way of doing it. Giving options without making anyone feel bad about possible financial struggles, especially in the world we’re currently living in. My dog has had some pretty invasive treatments and procedures at Animals 1st and is still eager and happy to go in every time. Bruce and I are very grateful to have the team helping us.
